Victory Gardenerd on ABC News: Nightline

The television crew asked to follow me around for a day to visit several of my clients and my community garden, Ocean View Farms. Both Tommy Rosen and Chris Paine are clients from this past year. I designed and built their food gardens.
Chris' garden will be debuted during the grand opening of his super-eco-friendly home, Marrakesh House, in May of 2009. We built his garden out of Trex Decking, a recycled wood/plastic product. We planned the garden to be functional around his busy schedule and to serve as a future teaching garden for visitors to the property.
Tommy is founder of the Eco Gift Festival that happens in December of each year in Santa Monica, CA. He requested that we use reclaimed wood for his project, so we located some beautiful rough-sawn lumber that had been salvaged from an old Craftsman home in Sylmar. We also located some broken concrete, destined for the landfill, and used them as stepping stones for pathways. We planted almost entirely with organic seeds, and everyone in his household participated in the planting and watering of this great garden.
At Ocean View Farms, Holly Mae Howard was weeding her plot as Charlie Frieder was watering (those were quick little cameos). They also interviewed Sarah Spitz, publicity director of KCRW and Master Gardener, who has a plot at OVF also. She showed them around her raised beds made from reclaimed lumber and displayed her beautiful crops. Sarah's interview was wonderful, but somehow didn't make it into the final piece.

Hi Christy! Saw the segment on Nightline. Had a very hard time finding your site. Google search for "garden nerd" failed. Finally found it with "garden nerd california". Too bad the reporter didn't say Gardenerd.com - your website would probably be overwhelmed with traffic. Amazing opportunity for you to be featured on a national show - just trying to give you some helpful feedback on harnassing that exposure. I'm afraid that many people may have given up their search before locating your site.

Correction: I'm sorry - I actually found it by just searching for the domain "gardennerd.com" and was redirected to "gardenerd.com". Hope this feedback might help some way.

Thank you so much for the feedback. I use Yahoo to do most of my searching, and Gardenerd shows up right at the top, be it Garden Nerd or Gardenerd.
It's so ironic that the site doesn't show up on Google, since I use their search engine embeded into the site AND I use Google Analytics as well. Guess I need to optimize a little bit more.
I do own the Gardennerd.com web domain as well - it just forwards to Gardenerd.com.

went to george's hardware store and the guy who helped me purchase a garden hose happened to mention that all garden hoses contain lead - even though it isn't listed on the label- therefore we are adding lead to our food by watering with a hose! what info do you have on this?

Yes, I've been hearing this as well. I noticed that OSH has been selling "drinking water safe" hoses that are white and blue. As for the levels of lead in the water, I still need to investigate this further. I'll keep you posted on what I find out.

Yes, there sure are. You'll want to check with your particular city to learn about restrictions and requirements for building a green roof first. Then consult green roof specialists. Here are a few websites to get you started:
